Continuent CTO Robert Hodges Talks About Tungsten’s Integrated  Data Management Capabilities at MySQL Conference and Expo in Santa Clara

MySQL Conference, Santa Clara, CA – April 13, 2010 – Continuent, Inc., a leading provider of integrated solutions for continuous data availability, advanced database replication, backup and database performance scalability, today continued its focus providing advanced data management capabilities for the MySQL® and PostgreSQL by announcing Continuent Tungsten version 1.3 Release Candidate.

Continuent Tungsten solution offers significant improvements for enterprise customers, ISVs, ISPs and Web 2.0 customers using MySQL and PostgreSQL, and it is especially well suited for SaaS vendors using MySQL.

"MySQL and PostgreSQL are both excellent database solutions. While they maybe free or low-cost to acquire, neither MySQL nor PostgreSQL are especially low-cost to manage when deployed in larger and complex topologies. Also MySQL and PostgreSQL both are lacking some critical management capabilities when run in business-critical environment” says Eero Teerikorpi, CEO at Continuent. "Continuent Tungsten has proven to be a very good match to cover the real escalating budget problems MySQL and PostgreSQL customers are facing by providing additional capabilities and manageability that improve MySQL and PostgreSQL  environments. In addition, Tungsten significantly lowers the need for manual labor while managing large database deployments.”

The key benefits Continuent Tungsten offers MySQL and PostgreSQL users include:

  • Meet customer’s SLAs with continuous applications availability and response time requirements with no customer data loss
  • Enable growth by easily adding new customers and/or covering the increased volume from existing customers by using existing hardware more effectively
  • Raise bottom-line profitability by keeping the cost of operation low and enhancing add-on revenue.

Continuent CTO Robert Hodges has two Tungsten related talks at the MySQL Conference and Expo:  “Clustering for the Masses - A Gentle Introduction to Tungsten for MySQL” on Tuesday, April 13 and “Not Your Grandpa’s Replication-The New Wave of MySQL Replication and How It Helps Your Applications” on Wednesday, April 14.

Tungsten high availability and data protection features include maintaining live copies with data consistency checking and tightly coupled backup/restore integration with advanced database cluster management tools. Tungsten cluster management allows MySQL and PostgreSQL users perform system upgrades without downtime, thus enabling these maintenance operations during normal business hours without service interruptions.

The value add features Continuent Tungten offers for MySQL and PostgreSQL include but are not limited to:

  • Rule-driven management with automated failover
  • Zero-down time database upgrades (schema, software and hardware upgrades)
  • Simple procedures for updates and maintenance
  • Integrated backup/restore and data integrity checks
  • SQL scaling for multi-tenant SaaS systems
