We’re pleased to announce the release of Tungsten Cluster and Tungsten Replicator v7.2.1, a maintenance release that delivers important bug fixes, operational improvements, and enhanced visibility into replication performance. This update focuses on making configuration management safer, command-line tools more robust, and replication behavior more transparent in modern environments.
Configuration & Deployment Improvements
Tungsten v7.2.1 introduces a more predictable and secure approach to configuration management. The tpm tool now reads configuration exclusively from /etc/tungsten/tungsten.ini, eliminating ambiguity caused by multiple configuration file locations. Administrators who require alternate paths or multiple configuration files can explicitly specify them using the --ini option.
A major enhancement in this release is the introduction of tungsten.ini automatic backup and history tracking. When enabled, Tungsten creates timestamped backups of the configuration file during installs and updates, providing a clear audit trail and an easy way to review or restore previous configurations. New tpm ini subcommands allow administrators to compare the active configuration with historical versions or manually trigger backups when needed.
Command-Line Enhancements
Several command-line tools have been enhanced for improved safety and usability. The tprovision command has been refactored to remove its dependency on external utilities and now handles binary log cleanup more safely when binary logs are stored outside the MySQL data directory. It also correctly honors mountpoint overrides, even when not using rsync.
New tpm functionality makes configuration management more transparent. Administrators can now preview configuration changes during upgrades, list configuration options that have defined defaults, and view example steps used when copying certificates between nodes. A new --add-ssl upgrade option also allows environments without SSL enabled to be upgraded and secured in a single step.
Replication Performance Visibility
Tungsten Replicator v7.2.1 introduces real-time replication performance monitoring, making it easier to identify slow transactions, events, or statements during replication. This feature provides detailed execution timing and supports configurable thresholds, helping operators proactively detect and troubleshoot performance bottlenecks in replication workflows.
Bug Fixes & Stability Improvements
This release resolves a wide range of issues across core components. Replication behavior has been improved to ensure consistent timestamp handling when using mixed binary log formats and non-privileged replication users. New configuration options help address SELinux-related issues when applying LOAD DATA INFILE statements, including support for safer temporary directories and forced LOCAL file usage when needed.
Connector stability has also been improved with fixes for memory handling, recovery after site outages, and startup-time exceptions.
Tungsten Manager now correctly completes failovers even when clusters have been idle for extended periods. Security has been strengthened through updates to third-party libraries, addressing potential vulnerabilities.
This release restores the default of disabling identification in secured RMI calls that was introduced in the recent Java versions. An installation issue when using MariaDB 10.6 with SSL is also fixed.
Upgrade Notes
This release is recommended for all Tungsten 7.x users. As always, we strongly recommend reviewing the full release notes and testing upgrades in a non-production environment before deploying to production systems.
