We’re pleased to announce the release of Tungsten Cluster and Tungsten Replicator v8.0.2, a maintenance release that fixes a critical CAA issue, strengthens configuration management, improves operational safety, and expands platform support. This version focuses on making upgrades safer, day-to-day administration clearer, and deployments more future-proof.
If you have hyphens or mixed case in either of these areas, or running a Composite Active/Active topology, please do NOT upgrade to v8.0.0 or v8.0.1 and instead upgrade directly to this v8.0.2 release.
Safer Configuration Management with INI Backup & History
One of the key enhancements in v8.0.2 is the introduction of tungsten.ini automatic backup and history tracking. When enabled, Tungsten now preserves timestamped copies of the active configuration file during installs and updates, allowing administrators to easily review or restore previous configurations.
New tpm ini subcommands make it possible to compare the current configuration against historical versions, inspect defaults, and manually trigger backups. These changes provide much-needed visibility and confidence when upgrading or modifying production environments, especially in complex or regulated setups.
Command-Line Improvements
Several improvements have been made to command-line tooling to reduce risk and increase transparency. The tprovision command now handles binary log cleanup more safely when the binary log directory differs from the MySQL data directory, and it correctly honors mountpoint overrides even when not using rsync.
Administrators can now list all tpm options that have explicit default values using the new tpm ini defaults command. The documentation has also been updated to clearly reflect defaults and available options. A new tpm copy --example mode has also been added that shows the exact manual steps used when copying cluster certificates across nodes. This is useful for audits, reviews, and custom automation.
Expanded Platform Certification
Tungsten Cluster and Replicator v8.0.2 extend official certification to the latest enterprise Linux platforms, including RHEL 10, Rocky Linux 10, and Oracle Linux 10, ensuring compatibility with modern operating system environments.
Bug Fixes & Stability Improvements
This release resolves several important issues affecting upgrades and runtime stability. Replicator and Connector stability was improved, including a Drizzle driver memory issue with large string parameters and an optimization to avoid unnecessary keystore reloads introduced with dual certificate support. Tungsten Manager has also been improved to ensure failovers complete successfully even after prolonged cluster idle periods.
v8.0.2 Upgrade Summary
-
Safer configuration changes: automatic
tungsten.inibackups and history reduce upgrade and rollback risk. -
Clearer configuration defaults: new
tpm inicommands and documentation make defaults and options explicit. - More transparent certificate handling: example-based certificate copy steps support audits and custom automation.
- Reduced operational risk: safer provisioning, improved failover reliability, and Connector stability fixes.
- Expanded OS support: certified for RHEL 10, Rocky Linux 10, and Oracle Linux 10.
Upgrade Notes
We recommend reviewing the full v8.0.2 release notes and testing upgrades in a staging environment before deploying to production. Special attention should be given to configuration file handling and service naming if upgrading from Tungsten 7.x.
